Some people see life’s challenges as roadblocks. Others, like Kristen Dockendorff, see them as opportunities to grow, adapt, and inspire.
Kristen’s journey began in the art classroom, where she spent years teaching students to see the world through the lens of creativity. When she lost her vision, many might have assumed her art career would end. Kristen proved them wrong. She not only continued teaching for another 11 years but also deepened her connection to her passion for art.
Today, she still throws pottery, folds intricate origami, and crafts beautiful works that prove vision is about more than eyesight—it’s about heart, imagination, and persistence.

Kristen encourages others living with blindness to keep pursuing their passions, to connect with others for tips and tricks to navigate daily life, and to never stop seeking joy. She has inspired me, to create more educational opportunities that help the public understand the etiquette and the Courtesy Rules of Blindness, bridging gaps in understanding and fostering respect.

Her Seeing Eye dog, Winnie, is her constant partner, guiding her with loyalty and love. And Kristen’s personal philosophy, the 4 C’s, is a reminder to us all:
Curiosity – Ask questions, explore, keep learning.
Creativity – Find new ways to express yourself.
Courage – Face life’s changes with strength.
Connections – Build relationships that uplift and support.
Kristen embraces technology and every gadget that helps her remain independent at home. She is a living testament that losing your sight does not mean losing your vision for life.
