Volunteers are bringing people to doctor appointments, physical therapy, helping to keep their housework kept up, mowing their lawns. Volunteers are guiding people on how to use their tech devices to decrease the digital divide and decrease loneliness and isolation. Volunteers are training vision impaired people how to use smart devices, there is so much available and we are a resource hub for those in need.

Support Our Mission – Help Neighbors Stay Connected, Independent, and Thriving
UR Community Cares launched its first program in 2019 with what is now known as Neighbors Helping Neighbors—a volunteer-powered network connecting community members who want to help with neighbors who need support. Through shared time, skills, and compassion, volunteers build meaningful relationships that strengthen and unite our community.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors Opportunities Include:
- Mentorship programs that bridge generational gaps and foster shared learning
- Everyday assistance with errands, light housekeeping, or friendly companionship
- Tech support to help older adults adapt to new technology and stay connected
Since then, we have grown our programs to ensure older adults and people with disabilities can remain supported in their homes and engaged in community life—reducing loneliness while maintaining independence.
Our Impact So Far
- 2023 – Developed the Directory of Blind and Vision Impaired Services and Organizations (large print in English & Spanish, online, and flash drive editions)
- July 2023 – Launched Cycling Without Age Manchester, offering free rides to parks and events for older and disabled adults
- April 2024 – Opened the UR Community Tech Center in partnership with the Town of Manchester
- November 2024 – Began hosting the Manchester Parkinson’s Social Group
- January 2025 – Introduced the UR Vision Station at the Tech Center, offering assistive technology for people with vision loss
