| Meet Richard Zaremba, the heart behind the Manchester Veteran Banner Program, a beautiful tribute that honors local veterans by displaying personalized banners along Main Street. As a retired teacher and dedicated crossing guard, Richard saw a need to recognize the brave men and women who served our country, and he made it happen. Watch his inspiring interview on UR Community Reach: Richard Zaremba Interview https://youtu.be/fdXnuxsswx4 Thanks to Richard’s vision and tireless efforts, Manchester now proudly showcases banners from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, reminding us all of the sacrifices made by our hometown heroes. | Every veteran carries a story, sometimes spoken, sometimes held quietly in the heart. When a veteran is willing to share, it is a gift. Listening with patience and respect is one of the most powerful ways we can honor their service. It is not about having the right response or asking for details. It is about presence. Sit with them. Look them in the eye. Let silence have its place. A gentle “thank you” can carry more weight than any long reply. Honoring veterans isn’t only about ceremonies or parades, it’s about seeing them as whole people, with experiences that shaped their lives and, in turn, our nation. Whether their stories are of courage, hardship, or simple moments of camaraderie, they deserve to be heard with kindness. As we listen, may we also remember: peace is built not only on sacrifice, but on compassion. By opening our hearts to the stories of those who served, we honor their past and strengthen the bond of our shared future. |
