Cycling Without Age

Manchester, CT and Expanding to More Communities Soon

UR Community Cares has newly formed the Manchester Chapter of Cycling Without Age.

Cycling Without Age is part of the global movement striving to improve mental health and change the system of social isolation and loneliness; a prevalent condition affecting our elderly and less mobile population today. UR Community Cares goal is to create improved social interactions and intergenerational connections.

Together, volunteers and people experiencing loneliness and social isolation can partake in a shared bike experience in the park on a guided tour. Cycling Without Age seeks to reach older adults, and people with temporary and permanent disabilities and veterans who can benefit from the physical, emotional, and social benefits this experience affords.

We plan to take what we are learning in getting this Manchester chapter off the ground to help leaders in other communities establish this program. In 2024 we aim to provide a toolkit with training resources on raising the funds and implementing Cycling Without Age in other communities. For more info, email info@urcommunitycares.org.

UR Community Cares Founder Michelle Puzzo shows off the rickshaw used for the Cycling without Age program. Pilots can use the rickshaw to offer two passengers a bike ride around town.

How to Get Involved

Rickshaw pilots can volunteer whenever it fits best into their schedule. If you have strong legs and feel like giving a bicycle ride through the park, to the East Coast Greenway, along the roaring brook or even down memory lane – then become a pilot with Cycling Without Age Manchester.

To participate in our Manchester program as a pilot or to take a ride, reach out to info@urcommunitycares.org.
