Who We Are

“My personal experience with my Meme having Alzheimer’s and my patients needing more support at home made me realize I could link neighbors by creating an online platform,” Michelle Puzzo, co-founder.

Michelle had the idea for UR Community Cares in 2019 after treating her physical therapy patients who needed help at home but couldn’t pay for assistance and didn’t qualify for state programs. She realized volunteers could donate their time to help those aging and disabled in their neighborhood if they knew who needed help. Her medical background allowed her to recognize the challenges that people face when beginning to experience declining physical and cognitive abilities and decided to take action. Building the UR Community Cares website was the first step, as a way to match those in need with those in the same community who are eager to help was a novel idea at the time. The organization continues to grow with her dedication and drive to help more people in need.

Our Mission

Keeping older & disabled neighbors supported in their homes and active in their communities.

“In 2035 there will be 78 million people age 65 and older compared to 76.4 million under the age of 18. In other words, the elderly population will outnumber children for the first time in the country’s history-a demographic shift that poses a unique set of public health challenges.”
