Manchester’s Art & Culture Collide in 3rd Annual Graffiti Battle 2026

At last year’s Graffiti Battle, with the theme of “CANVAS OF COURAGE,” we were deeply inspired by a poet, Victoria, who attended for the very first time and organically became part of the creative energy of the event. After arriving once the battle had already begun, she connected with several artists, spending meaningful time in conversation with Brian Wentworth about his powerful blue-toned piece that evoked the feeling of being underwater, suspended in the tense moment just before breaking through the surface.

Moved by his concept of courage, resilience, and the determination to overcome what first feels insurmountable, she crafted an ekphrastic poem inspired by his work. Her words explored themes of perseverance, striving beyond life’s encumbrances, and pushing through barriers to reach freedom and full potential. Watching visual art spark spoken word in real time was a powerful reminder of how creativity connects us, and her contribution inspired us to intentionally incorporate poetry and live literary art into this year’s event.

Victoria is a member of Wit & Wisdom, a Manchester poetry group, and here is her poem:

This year’s Graffiti Battle will feature live music, spoken word poetry, and talented artists, and we’d love for you to be part of it! Come April 4th, and talk about your talent, and we can find a way to weave you into this event to show off your skills.

We’re currently welcoming face painters, balloon artists, comedians, visual artists, performers, and creatives of all kinds. All art forms will be considered as we build an exciting, inclusive, and engaging event for the community.

Anyone interested in participating is warmly invited to come to the UR Community Tech Center on April 4th, 9 am-12 pm, to meet with me. We’ll take time to talk about your talent and explore how we can include you in this year’s lineup of performers.

I’m excited to connect and see how we can showcase your creativity at the event!

Join us and help make this year’s Graffiti Battle our most vibrant celebration yet!

If you’re interested in sharing your talent but unable to attend on April 4th, please reach out to me at 860-430-4557 or info@urcommunitycares.org.
