UR Vision Resources
UR Vision Resources is our way of providing older and disabled adults with free support, resource connections and technology training.
Almost 20 million Americans, or 8 percent of the U.S. population, have visual impairments. Ranging from poor vision to blindness, visual impairments are one of the leading causes of loss of independence for people age 65 and older.
At UR Community Cares, we’re committed to helping vision-impaired individuals stay connected and independent. We are providing access to assistive technology and onsite support from trained volunteers. Together, we can make a difference!

UR Vision Station is in UR Community Tech Center in Manchester
UR Community Cares launched UR Vision Station on January 23, 2025 to support blind and vision-impaired residents. This free service is made possible in part by funding from AARP Connecticut’s Livable Communities, Manchester ARPA and Dime Bank Foundation grants.
The UR Vision Station is a hub for assistive technology and training, with hands-on assistance from our volunteers, to ensure participants can achieve their goals and lead independent lives.
Our technology investments include popular assistive devices; use these links to learn more about the products: Vision Table, Ruby XL HD Video Magnifier, Laptop with NVDA, UR Community Cares free large print Blind/Low Vision Resource Directories, Eschenbach Magnifiers and much more!
Stop by and explore our devices, work with a volunteer and discuss your goals!

Directory of Blind/Vision Impaired Services and Organizations
We have compiled resources in Connecticut, nationwide and advanced technology options globally for blind and vision impaired people.
We are deeply thankful for the grant from the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, which will enable us to update our directory in 2025 and acquire assistive technology devices. This support allows us to demonstrate and train individuals in New Haven County on how to effectively use these devices, fostering greater independence and accessibility. We will visit libraries, senior centers and low vision groups in 2025 to present new information about the organizations featured in our directory and apps that are available.

One example of a resource in our directory is Lions Low Vision Center in Connecticut, they are bringing their devices to our presentations to demonstrate their services. For more information go to https://www.lionslowvisioncenters.org.
