Dec. 3rd – Giving Tuesday
UR Community Cares volunteers have successfully transformed people’s lives throughout 2024. We are filled with gratitude for the incredible people that are a network to assist older adults and individuals with disabilities remain in their communities, helping them live independently and with dignity. With your help, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most—enriching people’s living environments and providing assistance in household support, by offering companionship, and transportation.
This year, we have reached more people than ever before, but the need continues to grow. Our programs, including the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program 1,100+ Good Deeds performed by volunteers in 2024 and 4,200+ since 2019. We have provided critical help to those who are often isolated and vulnerable. Our Blind/Vision Impaired Directory has distributed 500+ directories this year, Cycling Without Age Manchester gave 100+ rides to improve people’s mental health. Your support has allowed us to continue to grow and expand our programming and we opened a Tech Center, in the first 6 months we have had approximately 500 people come through the doors to help with the digital divide.

Volunteer Testimonial
In the photo below, Mary (pictured on the right) is a dedicated volunteer who provides transportation for Beth (pictured on the left) to her medical appointments.
This simple yet impactful act of kindness has a profound effect on Beth’s health and well-being. Reliable access to healthcare is a critical determinant of overall health, and transportation challenges can often be a significant barrier for individuals, especially older adults or those with limited mobility. By stepping in to assist, Mary helps ensure Beth can attend her appointments on time, receive necessary treatments, and maintain her health.
Beyond physical health, this connection also supports mental well-being. The companionship and support Mary provides during these trips foster a sense of community and reduce feelings of isolation for Beth. This is a perfect example of how Neighbors Helping Neighbors can positively impact not only individual lives but also the broader community.
Why Your Support Matters
Each day, we receive calls from older adults who are struggling to remain independent. They need friendly visitors, help with daily tasks, or access to transportation to get to appointments. Your donation makes it possible for us to continue providing these essential services free of charge.
- $50 could cover transportation for an elderly neighbor to a medical appointment.
- $100 could provide a friendly visit to someone who can no longer leave their home.
- $250 could support technology training for a visually impaired resident, helping them stay connected and informed.
- $500 could fund support for our programs for an older adult living with mobility issues.
One of our key initiatives for 2025 is starting a Manchester Parkinson’s Disease Support Group and expanding our vision program by creating “UR Vision Station” in the Tech Center; it will equip visually impaired residents with life-changing assistive technology.
Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community where everyone is supported. We are so grateful for your continued generosity and commitment to helping older adults and individuals with disabilities live with independence and dignity.
Thank you for standing with us and for your unwavering support.
With heartfelt thanks,
Michelle Puzzo, Executive Director
