“There will never be another now –
I’ll make the most of today.
There will never be another me –
I’ll make the most of myself.”

UR Community Cares is Celebrating Women’s History Month: Inspiring Stories and Unwavering Strength
March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the incredible contributions and achievements of women throughout history. It’s a month dedicated to recognizing the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women who have shaped our world in countless ways. As we celebrate this special month, let’s draw inspiration from the stories of remarkable women and reflect on the progress we’ve made, while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.
The Trailblazers
From scientists and activists to artists and leaders, women have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations. Consider the pioneering work of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, whose groundbreaking research in radioactivity changed the course of science. Or the fearless activism of Rosa Parks, whose refusal to give up her seat on a bus sparked the Civil Rights Movement and inspired countless others to stand up for justice. Helen Keller was an author, activist, and advocate who lost both her hearing and sight due to illness at just 19 months old. Despite her deafness and blindness, she became a major 20th century humanitarian, educator, and writer. Her story is a testament to perseverance and rising above adversity.
Everyday Heroes
While we celebrate well-known figures, it’s equally important to recognize the everyday heroes in our lives. These are the women who balance careers, families, and personal aspirations with grace and determination. They are the mothers, sisters, friends, and colleagues who support and uplift us, often without recognition or fanfare. Their stories remind us that strength and courage come in many forms.
“My grandmother (pictured above), who lived to be 99 despite being legally blind and battling Alzheimer’s, was a profound source of inspiration for me. Her resilience and unwavering spirit in the face of such challenging circumstances taught me the true meaning of strength and compassion. Witnessing her struggles and the gaps in traditional at-home care services motivated me to create UR Community Cares. I wanted to build a community where neighbors support and connect with each other, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the care and companionship they deserve. My grandmother’s legacy lives on through this nonprofit, as we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.”

Empowering the Next Generation
As we look to the future, it’s crucial to empower the next generation of women to dream big and pursue their passions. Education and mentorship play a vital role in this process. By providing young women with the tools and support they need, we can help them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Programs that promote STEM education, leadership development, and entrepreneurship are essential in fostering a new wave of female innovators and leaders.
The women volunteers at UR Community Cares are truly dedicated and play an integral role in all aspects of our organization. Their commitment shines through in every program we offer, from providing direct support to those in need to organizing community events. Our advisors and board members, many of whom are women, bring invaluable expertise and guidance, helping to shape our mission and drive our initiatives forward. Additionally, our generous women donors ensure that we have the resources necessary to continue our work. Iris Carde, shown below, is an artist who has generously dedicated both her time and resources to creating artwork for our organization. Together, these remarkable women form the backbone of UR Community Cares, exemplifying the power of community and compassion.
