Jody’s Kindness Shines!
UR Community Cares recently received this testimonial from a family of one of our members.
“Sheldon became a Community Member in March 2024. A 93-year-old widower, he was on his own in a house in Glastonbury, having recently given up his car.
Jody (UR Community Cares volunteer) stepped in and began visiting Sheldon on her day off and continued to visit him every week for a year until he was no longer able to live in his house. And even after that Jody came to visit Sheldon in the nursing facility where he ended up after surgery.
Sheldon truly enjoyed Jody’s companionship/socialization visits. She is absolutely one of the reasons he was able to stay in his home as long as he did. Not only did she give of herself in spending time talking to him at his house, but she also took it upon herself to drive him into town for necessary errands to the grocery store, the bank, etc.
My family is extremely grateful to Jody, and also to your organization for enabling this connection to happen. Jody, whom I have met on a few occasions, is a remarkable human being who really made a difference in my father’s life.
Sheldon is now in a long term care residence near where I live in Albany, New York, about two hours away from Glastonbury. While I am sorry that my father will now miss out on Jody’s thoughtful visits, I am so happy that she was always there for him, to check up on him, to listen to his stories, and to let me know of any issues that she noticed. A wonderful volunteer!”
