Update – UR Community Cares – July 2026

At UR Community Cares, we believe in building a stronger, more connected community where older adults and people with disabilities can live with dignity, independence, and support. Through caring volunteers, innovative programs, and meaningful community partnerships, we help neighbors remain engaged, empowered, and safely at home and in the community.

Programs and Services

UR Community Cares is a Connecticut statewide nonprofit organization. We offer a variety of programs designed to support independence, inclusion, and quality of life:

• Neighbors Helping Neighbors connects volunteers with older and physically disabled adults for help with daily tasks, errands, transportation, and companionship.

• Cycling Without Age Manchester gives older and disabled adults access to parks, events, and outdoor recreation at no cost.

• UR Community Tech Center offers technical support, free classes, and resources to help older adults build confidence using technology.

• UR Vision Resources supports individuals living with vision impairments. Teaching Braille Classes.

• UR Hearing Resources provides programs and support for people who are hard of hearing, deaf, or deafblind.

UR Community Tech Center is Connecticut’s first Senior Planet partner and is a welcoming place for learning, sharing, and building confidence with technology. We offer free tech coaching, classes designed for adults age 50 and older, and presentations from trusted community partners and guest speakers. Our monthly class schedule is updated regularly, with beginner learners in mind.

In addition to classes, we host socials, presentations, and workshops that help people stay connected, informed, and engaged.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. We welcome helpers of all ages and all skill levels.

At the UR Community Tech Center, volunteers can serve as:

• classroom helpers

• onsite coaches

• visitor greeters

• sign-in support

• room set-up support

• friendly helpers who make people feel welcome and ready to learn

Volunteers also support our broader programs by helping older and disabled adults with transportation, companionship, small tasks, and connection to the community.
