Building Community Connections: Stonington’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program

UR Community Cares has partnered with the members of Stonington’s Commission on Aging to expand our Neighbors Helping Neighbors program in Stonington. This initiative aims to foster a supportive and connected community by providing free, non-professional assistance to seniors.

Community Conversation Kickoff

Last week, Stonington Community Cares hosted a community conversation at the Stonington police station meeting room. The event was well-attended by residents eager to learn more about the program and how they could contribute. The room buzzed with enthusiasm as attendees asked questions and shared their thoughts on the needs within the community.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Neighbors Helping Neighbors program relies on dedicated volunteers to offer various forms of assistance to seniors, including:

  • Yard Work: Helping with gardening, lawn maintenance, and seasonal tasks.
  • Snow Shoveling: Ensuring safe pathways during winter months.
  • House Cleaning: Providing a clean and comfortable living environment.
  • Transportation: Driving seniors to appointments and errands.
  • Companionship: Offering friendship and support to combat loneliness and isolation.
